WORLD BOOK AND COPYRIGHT DAY

In 1995 UNESCO proclaimed “World Book and Copyright Day” underlining how books have always been a strong instrument for the circulation and conservation of culture. It is indeed important for the development of awareness of worldwide cultural traditions and it could give life, with its influence, to behaviour based on comprehension, tolerance and dialogue.
The date chosen represents a homage to the three of the most important authors of all times, who passed away on that day in 1616: William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes, ant the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.
As of April 23 there will be a series of events worldwide dedicated to literature. These events are not only a moment of homage to books, but they aim at being a worldwide promotional instrument for literature, editorial activities and a correct protection of intellectual works.
For the 2006 edition of “World Book and Copyright Day” promoted by UNESCO, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura organizes a series of events for the promotion of literature on April 24, 2006. On this day there will be stands dedicated to Italian language publications by Italian authors. There will also be a stand dedicated to children’s books. Small surprises await our youngest visitors. The Istituto will be open from 3:30 to 8:00 pm so as to give everyone the opportunity to visit the stands and buy books.
Furthermore it will possible to order books by Italian best selling authors. For the best promotion of the latest Italian literature, the Istituto will sell, upon reservation, the following books at cover price.
